Now back to the episode…
Your gut and heart may be more connected than you think. This week’s YouTube video unpacks how certain foods—especially fiber-rich ones—can help lower your cholesterol, tame inflammation, and even support blood vessel repair.
Here’s a question for you:
🎯 Pop Quiz
Which of these helps lower cholesterol and support heart health? |
1. Lentils, Oats & Apples for Heart Health (1:28)
What do lentils, oats, walnuts, and apples have in common? They’re all rich in dietary fiber—and that fiber does more than keep things moving. It feeds your healthy gut bacteria, which release short-chain fatty acids that help lower cholesterol and improve heart health from the inside out.
2. Feeding Your Gut (3:36)
When you eat fiber, you’re not just nourishing yourself—you’re feeding your gut microbiome. In return, those bacteria break the fiber down into short-chain fatty acids like acetate, propionate, and butyrate. These compounds help lower LDL (bad) cholesterol, smooth out glucose metabolism, and reduce inflammation—three key factors in preventing heart disease. It’s one more reason to think of your gut as a health command center.
3. Food and Medicine, Together (12:22)
Taking medication? That doesn’t mean food isn’t part of the plan. Remember—it’s not food versus medicine, it’s food and medicine. Prescription drugs like statins can be life-saving, but so can daily choices in your kitchen. Fiber-rich whole foods like fruits, vegetables, legumes, and healthy oils can work alongside your treatment to reduce inflammation and support your heart. Together, they’re a powerful combination for long-term health.
